Culture Shock in Bluffton Football
Bluffton football is a unique program with different players from big cities coming to the small town. Players come from all different states like Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Nebraska, Florida, and Georgia all coming together to make one team.The thing that is hard for a lot of players coming from the big cities is they suffer culture shock. Culture shock is the player having trouble adapting to the new type of environment they are in a lot of players cannot make the switch from their big cities.
One former player on the Bluffton Football team running back David Lane he is from big city Dayton Ohio, and said “I have to go back home it is too boring for me and nothing to do I am not use to doing this I need to go back home and have fun.” The transition for this player was hard transitioning to the small Mennonite community of Bluffton.
Another player former defensive back Jordan Jones suffered from culture shock too making the transition to Bluffton. Jordan Jones came from Freemont Ohio he said “I cannot handle this small environment this just is not for me I am transferring to a different college”.
Tension within Bluffton Football
Bluffton Football players are unsure if they agree with the coachings staff's offense and defense with this season coming up fast. The players on the team feel the team should run a diffrent defense and give a new look to the offensive scheme too!
On the defensive side of the ball the players feel the team is better fit for a 4-3 defense rather than the 3-3-5 the beavers run now. A 4-3 defense would have four down lineman. The defensive lineman feel the 4-3 would be an excellent fit for the type of personnel the team has, to put pressure on the quarterback, and stop the run.
Stephen Miller who led the team with 7 sacks last year, says " I think I cpuld have a bigger impact if we ran a 4-3". This would allow the defensive lineman more outside leverage because he would have an extra defensive tackle beside him to free him up and the linebackers.
The players do not believe the 3-3-5 is playing to their advantages because that defense is made for athletes and blitz, which head coach Tyson Veidt has brought in with his new system.
The tension comes from the players not being use to the new system and they are young so it is all a learning process for the team. When played right in games they made big plays so it shows it works. The team needs to continue to work on it and have faith in the coaching staff.
Offensive players feel that the offense does not really move the chains in the game, and have questions about the play calling selected. The beavers had a lot of quarterback problems last season with injuries. Wide recievers were not getting the ball like they wanted. Things will all work out for the team if they continue to work hard.

is there really a Ethical Problem in Bluffton?
Bluffton is not a place that really attracts lots of different ethnicities for the football team. The reason for this is because it is a small Mennonite community. You cannot blame the large number of a certain type of race and the results they have on the coaching staff, or the football team. Bluffton is just a place that is not very attractive to certain races and different types of people. This is a small school, and for that matter very small football school different players may feel they will not get noticed here or just far too small for their liking.
Some players on the team believe that the team plays only certain type of players and that is what our team is made up of. Connecting with the Community in a Bigger Way
Bluffton Football is bigger than just Bluffton to a lot of the players and coaches on the team. Even though Bluffton and its community is a small community, and not many people know much about it the football team wants to change that.
The Bluffton Football team wants to make a name for not just the team but for all of Bluffton even bigger than that all Ohio and from where every player on the team is from. The players on the teams have goals they want to accomplish and just competing with Bluffton or the HCAC conference is not big enough.
The Beavers are doing a lot to make that change they are beginning to start spring ball and have been lifting and working out hard to make their goals reality. Dominique Chester corner back for the football team says “ We do not just do all this hard work and have this dedication for nothing Me and my teammates are trying to be winners we want to be so much more than just what the Bluffton community is use to out their football team we want state playoffs”.
The players on this team want to be Champions not just winners and that is the type of attitude the coaching staff is teaching the Team. “They are teaching us how to be winners in all different kinds of ways on and off the field” said by Todd Rogan a safety for the Beavers.

Bluffton Football
Bluffton football has is a unique program with lots of different individuals from Ohio, Detroit, Indiana, Nebraska, Florida, Georgia, big cities to small little towns. That is what makes the team so unique because they can all come together to make one team. For players making the transition to Bluffton is hard, because this is a very small Mennonite community. This community and campus is all about respect, discovery, working all together as a team, and discovering things about yourself you would not normally know in any other situation. The players on the football team experience culture shock. The change is so different from them coming from a big city it is hard to make the transition to Bluffton. Coming from a big city it is hard for players to transition to the small campus atmosphere. Players have to understand Bluffton is small and respectful community and there not being many things to do for fun. Players suffer from the culture shock cannot always make the adjustment and leave.
The good thing about this being small is players have more time to bond with their teammates, and more time to focus on academics and football. This is a great thing for the football program. Bluffton’s football program is really on the rise. They are making a lot of new changes to the program, and the whole way things are ran. The first, big change would have to be the addition of head football coach Tyson Veidt. Coach Veidt was a former coach under West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez and has really brought a division one program to the small school. Coach Veidt wants to bring fundamentally sound football to all three phases of the game offense, defense, and special teams. Discipline is another one of his big things and this all goes along with the Bluffton community.
As far as the football program itself is making moves forward for the future, even though coming off a 0-10 season. The beavers are a very young team and had a great freshman recruiting class where a lot of the freshman saw time on the field. The beavers are a deep sophomore class too. Being a very young team the Bluffton Beavers will be a team to look out for. There were some positive notes to the beaver’s season though they had several players make the all HCAC conference both academically and for athletics

Where is Bluffton Football Heading?

With a program on the move the Football players are all getting new lockers, bathroom, and a player’s lounge. A new look could mean new things for Bluffton football “you look good you play good” said Bluffton’s freshman standout running back Tevin Hale.

Bluffton Football's Head Coach
Bluffton football is ready to start a brand new year under Tyson Veidt, head football coach of the beavers. Coach Veidt will be in his third year as head coach for the Bluffton Beavers, where they are looking to have a breakout season. Coach Veidt began his career under former West Virginia, now head coach of the Michigan Wolverines Rich Rodriquez he was an assistant coach there.
Coach Veidt also served a year at Saint Vincent College as the defensive coordinator where he also was the linebacker coach and helped with the special teams.
While in West Virginia Coach Veidt were part of the 2004 and 2005 big east championship teams, 2004 gator bowl appearance, and a 2006 sugar bowl win. He knows how to win and that is what he will be bringing to the Bluffton football program along with his strong recruiting and fundamentally sound football in all phases of the game.
Tyson Veidt received his bachelor’s degree in pre-physical therapy from Muskingum College and a master’s degree in athletic coaching from West Virginia. He and his wife Mandy live in Bluffton.

Bluffton Football History
Bluffton football program was once a football program not to be messed with. When Under head coach Carlin Carpenter dean of Ohio football had the longest active at 24 years. Carpenter had 100 career wins while he was a head football coach for the Beavers that is the most ever by any coach here. He was also named co- coach of the year after the 2000 season when the beaver’s won a share of the HCAC title. While under Coach Carpenter the beavers were also nationally ranked, and went to the national playoffs.
Elbert Dubenion” Golden Wheels” was the only player from Bluffton College to go pro. He set many records for the Bluffton Beavers during his time of playing 1955-1958. Many people in the community know of him. He went on to play for the Buffalo Bills as a wide receiver and broke numerous records there too. Elbert Dubenion was the real deal even though not many people got to see him play he made his mark on the NFL. While at Bluffton, he had one of the greatest coaches in Bluffton history, Carlin Carpenter. Bluffton football program has a lot of great history with the school.
